The Growing

Shocking things happen

But nothing changes imediately.

Darkness creeps in

whilst we look for change.

Not seeing shadows encroach

the light we took for granted.

The centre went to the right in ignorence

declaring the average reprehensible.

The average became broken, lost

forsaken & forgotten.

Weeds now grow stronger

whilst the crops & flowers fade.

So it grows in haste

the crop of the politics of hate.

Seriously…If anyone out there has a non hysterical reasan for being either IN or OUT of the European Union…please let me know? I am so confused, I can see reasons for being in & being out. However, the leaders of bothe sides of the referendumdom are foul & lothsome to me. So please advise……at the moment I feel I can only spoil my ballot paper….

Observations on The Labour leadership contest

So after a god awful General Election result earlier this year for The Labour Party, they now seem to have begun what can only be decribed as a  `Kafkaesque nightmare ‘ of a  leadership  contest.  Instead of embarking on a process of  uniting the Labour Party members & appealing to prospective Labour voters it would seem the following is happenening.

Contenders campaigns for the Labour leadership so far;

Liz Kendall is demanding that the members of the Labour party vote for her because;

  1. She wants to win.
  2. She  really wants to win.
  3. She really wants to win & if she doesnt she will stamp her feet & there will be trouble.

Yvette Cooper asks you vote for her because;

  1. She is doing her utmost to look sincere & has been practising her best hand wringing middle class angst pose.
  2. She really has honestly, & if that doesnt denote a great leader, well you just dont know how lucky you are to have her.
  3. She will explain all her policies & ideas after she has figured out what a socialist feminist is.  She really wants to win.

Andy Burnham would like you to Vote for him because;

  1. He likes to flip, he likes to flop & he truly will not stop.
  2. He likes to flop, he likes to flip, the vote for uni fees was just a slip.
  3. He wants to win…..or maybe not….yes he does.

Jerermy Corbyn  would like you to consider voting for him;

  1. He has consistantly voted against austerity measures that have impoverished many working, disabled, unemployed people & children in Britain.
  2. He wants  debates, not soundbites by rote.
  3. He possibly wants to win, but if not he will continue to oppose the current Conservative Governments policies & fight for a fairer society.

It would seem that three of the candidates in this leadership contest are spending more energy & campaign resources trashing a member of their own party than offering up any meaningfull opposition to the current Conservative government.

Along with all this, questions are being asked about former members of the Labour Party being unable to rejoin, Labour Party members being unabled to vote. Threats to oust a leadership candidate if `the wrong one wins’. Lord Mandalson slithering around in the shadows trying to dictate the outcome, & an ex Labour PM who really does think he’s a messiah figure, bleating on & on & on that the winner needs to be of the centre ground, which in actuality has moved to the right of the political spectrum thereby, making the Labour Party look like  a `Torylite’  spin machine.

Political discourse will, & action within the Laboutr Party,  cannot simply be about maintaining the status quo at all costs, it has to be inspiring, innovative, & inclusive for all Party members in order to have a strong united party. It  can then go to the country & offer sound policies & ideas to the betterment of all sections of society.  The sooner the blairites of the labour Party realise this isnt suposed to be a narcissistic vanity bitchfest the better,  perhaps then the real business of politics can begin.

Empty City at the weekend

Its amazing how empty the finacial part of London is on a Saturday.  Pretty much all news items make the finacial heart of London seem all important & vibrant. When in reality it isnt. Though at least it still consists of some buildings that are aesthetically pleasing. If you truely want to see a souless crap hole London,  you need to go to Canary Wharf. 😉

Personally thinking about the `Arts’ in the 21st Century

From the very time as a child that I learned to read & write, I have loved both. I wrote from a very early age, filling up note pads with poetry,songs, & stories.  Just before I hit thirty years of  age I took all I had written & kept from about the age of 12 yrs…& burnt them on a bonfire.

How I wish I hadn’t.

It didn’t matter if they were childish writings or thoughts. They truly were part of me that I destroyed. I would say that psychologically that at the time, they were part of my psyche that I wanted to destroy. So I did. In flames.

Why did I do this? Its simple really. Though I have lived the usual life of work, family, being a `grown up’. I still did arty things in my spare time. Then I allowed that mostly universal thought of `Put away childish things’ to enter my world.

All arts it seemed are deemed to be  `Childish things’.

Get to a certain age & writing for pleasure, making music, painting pictures, becomes frivolous, unless of cause you are an artistic wonder to be admired. How dare the you express yourself through art if you are low paid &,.. whatever Deity forbid not considered a  recognised and/or admired `Artist’.?

That seemed sadly to me at the time was to be the manner of things. I now realise this kind of thinking is wrong. One can still play & be adult in their interactions within the society around them.  What I have realised to my horror, is that perhaps it seems even more to be the case in the 21st century ..That you must put away childish things’…. Why do you think there are barely any actors/actresses that have `common’ accents’,  Why do you think there are no popular musicians singing about Ghost Towns (The Specials), How shit it is being unemployed (UB40-One in Ten). Why do you think that tablets are popular..(Tablets are for media/content consumers), & desktops sales,(mostly used by media/content makers), are dropping . The masses are not expected to create, they are expected to consume in a corporate world.

In the 21st Century, we are beginning to build a world of Corporate Feudalism, whereby,  `The Arts’ (Writing,Music,Painting, Drawing,Acting..etc), is the pursuit of the priviliged, the monied, regardless of whether or not the monied are actually any good at it. The everyday spaces have or are disappearing. Where have all the Common lands gone, The Village Halls,  Small venues gone?  For gia sake Pinkfloyd & Motown artists played at the California Ballroom in Dunstable, (No longer exists). Huh? Where you say?

Well thats my point.

Once upon a time in Britain, you could arrange to hire a field from a farmer, rent a flatbed truck, rent a local sound system, get a cheap printed flyer out and host a local gig. Whether it was a play, or local bands, sometimes local events included on occasions nationally known bands, & would you believe children of the 21st century, Artists, that were in the charts, appearing in  national theatres, and even, would you believe on prime time TV. Once upon a time in the UK, Local communities could put on & provide events for their local & surrounding communities.

Now it would seem, unless its a charity event, that local artistic endeavors are based on..`How much MONEY will this make’ .. `Will this upset the council’..`Security/Policing/Security/Policing..POLICING/POLICING…Control..Control.

It would appear, according to popular media & our political classes  that we the average, everyday people  are uncontrollable louts. We must have our leisure time as well as our working hours controlled. We the masses are unreliable, we the masses have no manners, no decorum, no respect for each other, let alone our betters. (?). Thus, in the 21st century we must be guided, must be Nannied. Its for our own good.

For the human species,  ART, from cave art, graffiti, prose, ballards, plays & dare I say especially through the artistic expressions of satire, we as a species have been driven to learn & express ourselves, not only in admiration, but also to critique. Now at the same time we are technologically creating & sharing tools to enable the masses to express themselves, we as societies are also allowing hierarchies to to control social structures that allow for  repression & exclusion throughout all levels of society.

It would seem that in a time where there has never been so many tools available for mass communication, that we the masses. are actually allowing ourselves to be entertained & `educated’ by a small elite section of a global media savvy monied subculture that have no interest in the world, other than our species appetite to consume &  preserving their own positions of political,social, & artistic privilege.

Chitter Chatter

Now, over the years I have seen the internet grow & expand with more people coming online as the cost of computers & the cost of getting online has reduced. To me this has been one of the most if not the most fantastic global human communication achievements of the 20th/21st Century. (i’m not saying there isn’t a downside, more on that further down).

For the first time in our histories, we have truly, global communication in real time. It has allowed the  many peoples of this planet, from different cultural backgrounds to speak to one another without Government, Business & Media filtering. If we so desire we the people can make sure it stays that way.

Now as we all know, our conversations & our traipsing around the www , what sites we visit, what conversations we take part in, heck, even who we email are not trackless. Governments worldwide have & are listening & watching what people are doing. Big Corporations are doing the same, they are wanting your data, they want your input & content to make money. Not necessarily for you, but for  themselves, definitely. Hence, the growth money wise  in social media.

But the internet is a curious thing, its not fixed, whilst many people, simply use well known sites , (I don’t need to mention them by name you know what & who they are), for their social media, news, films, music, etc. The www is bigger, better & more complex than that & as of yet, Governments & Big Business do not & cannot fully control it.

I personally think this is a good thing, if not the best thing about the world wide web. Sure, (heres the bad stuff), there are people out there uploading & spreading horrendous political, religious, ideological, sexual  content. It cannot be denied. However, Think of the www as a society, the good actually out weighs the bad.

There are more people uploading, downloading & sharing content that is positive than the few who are not. If that wasn’t the case the www would have collapsed long ago & been an electronic ghetto. Well it isn’t, is it?

There are some who seem to `shout louder than others’ be they Corporations, Government, or individuals. It may seem that they are the `internet’.  Have to say in all honesty they are not. Not one Government, not one Corporation, Religion, Media Oligarch, Media outlet, etc has that kind of power. Unless you or I let them think they have.

Therein lies the danger, if the majority of www users, be they those who  consume content or upload content allow Govermnents,  Big Corporations &/or the latest Guru/Messiah/Prophet to dictate global & local content on the www then it will surely just become a global pacifier, truly then it will be the opium of the masses. Everyone logged in, tuned in & dropped out. Where as at this moment in time we are not simply passive consumers.

So, wtf is this blog entry all about? Is there a conclusion?

Well that’s for you the reader to decide. I’m just making conversation.

The music Muse has kicked me up the arse…

Well its been a while since I have had the inclination to start a tune & finish it.

Well over a year anyway !!!

But finally the Music Muse has bypassed the Photographic Muse & pinch my earlobe & whispered “Oi, wakey wakey, do something”

So I have have, musically. You may or may not like it, its steering toward the Germanic Stomping Techno feel. But thats ok as I love German Techno. Hopefully this willhave woken the music muse side of me to express its self.

Like all things this isn’t about being an `Artist’ its about having fun & democratically using the technology available to express y’self.

So without further ado…enjoy or not…but go on you just might…

I Know Not But Its Fun With Fury
